Tyler Audubon Society (TAS) supports various short-term projects in the immediate area concerning bird welfare by partnering with other non-profit organizations that provide physical and financial support that improves avian habitat and rehabilitation. The following projects are funded by membership dues, donations and grants.
University of Texas Avian Habitat Improvement and Research Lab
This project is funded in part with a grant from the Audubon Foundation of Texas Collaborative Grant program.
Project Leader: Jessica L. Coleman, MS., Senior Lecturer and GTA Coordinator and UT Tyler Academy of Distinguished Teachers Fellow,
Grant Strategic Focus: Avian/Environmental Education or Advocacy
Project Overview:
“The number one thing I would like to do is to create a baseline study of the birds on campus and place bird boxes around campus to monitor and record the usage over the years. Mainly so we can monitor our bird population and potentially address conservation concerns and possible management strategies for the university campus when new buildings are constructed “, says Jessica Coleman. Funds will be used to purchase materials and supplies to create a long-term computerized checklist system, printed documents for students to use, plants to enhance habitat, bird boxes and binoculars.
Amount Requested: $ 1,000
Matching Funds: $ 1,000
